Frequently Asked Questions about the GPA Calculator

What scale does this GPA calculator use?
This calculator uses a common US 4.0 mapping with plus and minus grades. A+ and A equal 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, and F is 0. Schools set their own mappings, including whether A+ earns 4.0 or 4.3, so compare the result with your transcript policy.
How is GPA calculated?
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours. Those products are summed, then divided by the total credit hours. For example, a 3-credit A (4.0) and a 4-credit B (3.0) gives (12.0 + 12.0) / 7 = 3.43. The result is rounded to two decimal places.
What is a good GPA?
There is no universal good GPA or admissions threshold. The relevant comparison is the published requirement or recent range for your specific program, scholarship, or employer. Course rigor, major, institution, and the rest of an application can also affect how a GPA is evaluated.
What if my school uses a 5.0 or 100-point scale?
This calculator is built for the standard unweighted 4.0 letter-grade scale only. It cannot accept raw point values or a 5.0 weighted scale directly. Check whether your school also reports an unweighted GPA, or convert your letter grades manually using the 4.0 equivalents shown in the calculator.
Should I include pass/fail courses?
Include a pass/fail course only if your institution assigns it grade points. Many schools award credit for a passing mark but exclude it from GPA, while a failing mark may count as an F. This calculator accepts letter grades only, so follow the GPA treatment shown on your transcript.
Does GPA include withdrawn or audited classes?
A standard W or audit is often excluded from GPA, but withdrawal-fail grades and local policies can differ. This calculator accepts only GPA-bearing letter grades. Check your transcript or registrar policy before leaving any course out.
