Frequently Asked Questions about the Time Card Calculator

How does the time card calculator work?
Pick a start and end time for each weekday, then enter your unpaid break in minutes. The calculator adds up the worked minutes across the week, splits them into regular and overtime hours at your weekly threshold, and multiplies by your hourly rate to show your gross pay.
How is overtime calculated?
The calculator applies one weekly threshold and one overtime multiplier to an hourly rate. That is a simplified gross-pay estimate. It does not model daily overtime, tip credits, salary rules, exemptions, union terms, multiple rates, or state-specific requirements.
Does it handle overnight shifts that cross midnight?
Yes. With "Treat end before start as overnight" on (the default), a shift from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM counts as 8 clock hours before any break. Turn the setting off and the calculator instead flags an end time that falls before the start time. The time card has no dates or timezones, so it does not model daylight saving time.
Are breaks paid or unpaid?
The break field is unpaid and gets subtracted from that day's shift. Set it to 0 for a paid break. If the break is longer than the shift, the calculator counts that day as zero hours and shows a warning.
Can I leave days off the time card?
Yes. Leave both start and end blank for any day you did not work and the calculator skips it with no warning. Fill in only one of the two and you get a warning so you can complete the entry.
